Latest Happenings

    24th January 2008

Oooops.  It appears we've neglected this page since 2006.  We did a few bits and bobs last year, which was nice.  The real newsworthy stuff is this:  we'll be recording again soon!  That's right pop-pickers, we'll be committing tales of incest and bap-sacks to digital canvas in typical Phineas acoustictastic brush-strokes before you can say 'oooh, please send me a copy of the new CD'......   (Please say that).

20th December 2006

Well, this is just an update to prove we're still alive.  As with last year, we've been involved in providing entertainment in the form of ROCK (gggrrr!) for a christmas party.  Phineas stuff should resume in the New Year.

Merry Thingy and Happy That.

6th October 2006

Thank you to all those who came along to The Boathouse on 30th September to give us such fantastic support.  We were both very pleasantly surprised by the level of support and absolutely loved every minute.  It seems Free The Chesterfield Two (Titslings) went down better than we ever imagined!  That'll have to get recorded PDQ, along with S.T.O.O.P.I.D.    Thanks also of course to Mr Mark Evans, for having us open up his P.A.R.T.Y for him.  Hopefully more to come soon.

9th September 2006

Phineas does weddings.  26th August in Cambridge and 2nd September in Kent.  Congratulations to the happy couples.  We had a neat line of well behaved kids seated inches from us at the Cambridge wedding.  One of them fell asleep.  In Kent, we managed a full set despite the hurricane that was shouting and stamping its feet outside.  If you happen to be getting married and want us to folk your wedding up, then let us know!

27th June 2006

Well, Clash With The Paintwork, an 8-track MASTERPIECE, yes masterpiece, is now available.  Contact us for a copy!

24th May 2006

The Cambourne Kitchen recordings are still going well, although passing cars and Andy's fridge pose unexpected challenges.  Keep a look out for a new 5 or 6 8 track EP/demo album thing, coming soon....

9th April 2006

Is it YOU??  We're intrigued.  You see, the web stats for this site are telling us that a not-insignificant number of hits appear to be originating from Malta.  We don't know anyone in Malta.  Although Robin's Nana went on holiday there once.  So, if you're from Malta, we'd love to hear from you!

25th March 2006

After finding a great open mic/jam night at The Rivermill Tavern (every Tuesday night), it was announced that a planning application had been filed to turn the place into three fart-arse houses for people who love looking in mirrors.  Needless to say we weren't overly impressed with such a proposal, and it seems neither were most of St Neots.  As a result the application was withdrawn - at least for now.  So the Tuesday night fun continues - let's hope it's for a long time to come.

14th January 2006

After a 2 month hiatus, during which time gentle acoustic folking was replaced by loud electrified rock'n'roll, we spent a surreal (but nice) evening in the front room of Robin's Aunty and Uncle's house in the middle of nowhere helping Robin's cousin Penny become slightly older.

The audience was .....cosmopolitan, not to say itinerant, and we had stiff competition for their attention in the form of party food. It would appear that even the most ardent Phineas fan can be sidetracked when the gherkins and twiglets are out! There was also a bloke in jackboots, leather trousers and a purple ruffled shirt: I hope he doesn't bring any mates to the next gig!

All in all a satisfying evening, even if most people didn't realise we'd been playing until it was over.

Allegedly photographic evidence exists, but I've not seen it yet.

4th November 2005:

Something DID happen in October.  It just wasn't quite what we were planning.......  rather than the usual open-mic appearances, we found ourselves in a very wet and windy Toseland.  Inside a Methodist hall, actually.  Now let us explain:  What began as helping out some friends provide some music for the annual harvest supper (yes, harvest supper..... no, we're not) by playing drums (Robin) and guitar (Andy), turned into a full blown Phineas appearance.  With some trepidation we picked our way through the selection of cold meats, past the quiches and around the poems to do our first ever sitting-down, un-amplified and un-mic'd gig.  Just us, our guitars, and an audience that observed perfect silence during each song, only breaking said silence to shower us in applause.  Brilliant!  We thank all there for the reception they gave us.  And the cold meats.

Photographic evidence of this dubious-sounding tale does exist, honest. Unfortunately it's currently in Tenerife.

    22nd September 2005:

Well, in these last few months Andy has been working (is that right??) and Robin has moved to St.Neots.  Yep, he's joined millions of other baked-bean eaters and acquired one of those lovely mortgages.  Which proved to be rather easier than getting BT to sort out a bastard phone connection.  Today it's finally done; Robin exists once more.  How did we even BREATHE without the internet??

    15th August 2005:

Thanks again to Rob and the rest of The Barnum Effect (who rocked everyone....again!) for having us along to play at their gig.  Thank you to those who came along and supported us.  We liked Resin and particularly marvelled at the disabled drummer, who did a fine job!  Then there was the Darts Club with their metronomic drummer girl - did anyone actually manage to see the drum sticks?

27 July 2005:

Full details are in for the 6th August gig.  We're supporting The Barnum Effect, along with Darts Club and Resin.  Doors will probably be around 8pm and we'll be on pretty soon after that, so if you're looking for a gentle folking on that night you'll need to be punctual.....

26 June 2005:

Rate of new songification has dropped to one a day since 100% of the band is now getting crusty.  Or is that earning a crust?  The days of constant discombobulated acoustictastic slumber have passed.

8th June 2005:

Well, another performance under our belts.  We enjoyed playing in The Silver Moon and will look to get back there for another open mic as soon as. Thank you to Jo of Acoustic Stage for having us along and all those who came along to support us in Hitchin, and the messages from those who couldn't make it. Much appreciated!

News of a gig supporting The Barnum Effect in early August, date and venue TBA.  We're really looking forward to this one.  Good stuff. Keep an eye open for news on this site or sign up to our mailing list.  Mucho obligogo.

28th May 2005:

We have a demo - Mr T's Wendy House - a no frills what-you-hear-is-what-you-get affair. Go on, have a little listen.

18th May 2005:

Jo of Acoustic Stage fame has been kind enough to let us make noise on stage at The Silver Moon pub in Hitchin on 7th June 2005. This'll be our first real gig type thing.  Thanks to Jo for sidelining U2 for the evening.......

17th May 2005:

Well now.  There's a thing.  We haven't been doing this long. We started writing and playing stuff in November 2004.

Here's a list of all our live appearances to date, open mic and all ... and the giggage that's coming up.
